Fancy Top Cloche Hat / Skullcap
The pattern for this versatile hat uses various stitches, especially for the motif on top. The yarn used in this design is an acrylic blend that has a soft touch, and it goes well with the design allowing you to create a pretty accessory that can be worn throughout the year.The pattern is good for making both an elegant cloche hat or a casual skullcap.Hope you have fun using the pattern and even more fun when using whichever the hat you chose to make.

Skill Level: Easy - Intermediate
The finished sizes:The hat fits head size 54 - 58 cm (21" - 23") circumference.
Stitches Used: Chain stitches (ch), stitch (st), slip stitch (sl st), single crochet (sc), half double crochet (hdc), double crochet (dc), cluster stitch.
Hook: 6 mm (US J-10) hook.
Yarn: Worsted weight yarn, 1 ball is 100 gr = approx 205 m (214 yd). 2 balls of yarn of different colors.
Notions:Scissors, yarn needle.
Not:Hat is worked in the round as circles from the top to bottom. You can make the head size smaller if you use a smaller crochet hook with the same pattern.

Top Motif

Center ring:ch3, sl st into first chain to create aring or you can do a magic ring.

Rnd 1:ch2 (counts as first sc), work 5 sc in ring. Join the end of the round with a slst in the first sc. (6 sc)

Rnd 2:ch2, 1 sc in to same stitches, 2 sc in next 5 sc. Join the end of the round. (12sc)

Rnd 3:ch3 (counts as first dc), ch 1, *1 dc in next sc, ch1.* Repeat from * to *around. sl st in the ch4 space to join the end. (12 dc)

The first cluster of every round ismade of 3ch+3dc, rest of the clusters are made of 4dc.

Rnd 4:ch3 (counts as first dc in a cluster stitch), 3dc cluster in ch1 space, ch 3,*one 4dc cluster in next ch1 space , ch 3.* Repeat from * to * around. Join thesl st top of first cluster. (12 cluster)

Rnd 5:ch 3 (counts as first dc), *ch 2, one 4dc cluster in next ch3space, ch 2,1 dc in top of next 4dc cluster.* Repeat from * to * around. Jointhe end of the round. (12 cluster)

Cut the green yarn and start usingthe brown yarn.

Body

Rnd 6:There are 24 ch2 spaces aroundthe circle motif. Makech 2 (counts as hdc) in ch2 space, 2 hdc in samech2 space, Make a 3 hdc in the rest ch2 spaces. Join the end of the round. (72hdc)

Rnd 7:ch 2, 1 hdc in each hdc around. Join the end. (72 hdc)

Rnd 8:ch 2, 1 hdc in each hdc around. Join the end. (72 hdc)

Rnd 9:ch 2, 1 hdc in next 9 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc, *1 hdc in next 10hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc.* Repeat from * to * around. Join the end of the round.(78 hdc)

Rnd 10-16: ch 2, 1 hdc in each hdc around. Join the end. (78 hdc)

Rnd 17-19:(cut the yarn and start using the green yarn again) ch 2, 1sc in each hdc around. Join the end. (78 sc)

Cut the green yarn and start usingthe brown yarn
ONLY if you decided to make the cloche hat instead of the skullcap.
If you want to make the skullcap just fasten off and you’re done!

Brim

Rnd 20: ch 2, 1 hdc in next 5 sc, 2 hdc in next sc, *1 hdc in next 6sc, 2 hdc in next sc.* Repeat from * to * around. Join the end of the round. (89hdc)

Rnd 21: ch 2, 1 hdc in next 5 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc, *1 hdc in next 6hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc.* Repeat from * to * around. Join the end of the round.(101 hdc)

Rnd 22: ch 2, 1 hdc in next 5 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc, *1 hdc in next 6hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc.* Repeat from * to * around. Join the end of the round.(115 hdc)

Cluster Stitch

1. * Yarn over, insert hook in next space, yarn over, draw yarnthrough the stitch, yarn over, draw through 2 loops on hook *, repeat from * to* 3 times.

2. Yarn over, draw yarn through 5 loops on hook. (picture 4)

3. In the fifth picture you can see what a completed clustermade with 4 double crochet will look like.
