Fancy Top French Beret

Skill Level: Easy - Intermediate
The finished sizes: The hat fits head size 54 - 58 cm (21" - 23") circumference.
Stitches Used: Chain stitches (ch), stitch (st), slip stitch (sl st), single crochet (sc), double crochet (dc), cluster stitch.
Hook: 6 mm (US J-10) hook.
Yarn: Worsted weight yarn, 1 ball is 100 gr = approx 205 m (214 yd). 2 balls of yarn of different colors.
Notions: Scissors, yarn needle.
Note: Hat is worked in the round as circles from the top to bottom. You can make the head size smaller if you use a smaller crochet hook with the same pattern.

Top Motif
Center ring: ch3, sl st into first chain to create aring or you can do a magic ring.
Rnd 1: ch2 (counts as first sc), work 5 sc in ring. Join the end of the round with a slst in the first sc. (6 sc)
Rnd 2: ch2, 1 sc in to same stitches, 2 sc in next 5 sc. Join the end of the round. (12sc)
Rnd 3: ch3 (counts as first dc), ch 1, *1 dc in next sc, ch1.* Repeat from * to *around. sl st in the ch4 space to join the end. (12 dc)
The first cluster of every round is madeof 3ch+3dc, rest of the clusters are made of 4dc.
Rnd 4: ch3 (counts as first dc in a cluster stitch), 3dc cluster in ch1 space, ch 3, *one4dc cluster in next ch1 space, ch 3.* Repeat from * to * around. Join the sl sttop of first cluster. (12 cluster)
Rnd 5: ch 3 (counts as first dc), *ch 2, one 4dc cluster in next ch3space, ch 2,1 dc in top of next 4dc cluster.* Repeat from * to * around. Jointhe end of the round. (12 cluster)
Rnd 6: There are 24 ch2 spaces aroundthe circle motif. *make ch 5 and sl st in the first ch2 space, ch 4 and sl st innext ch2 space.* Repeat from * to * around. Join the end of the round.
Cut the green yarn and start usingthe brown yarn.
Body
Rnd 7: There are 12 ch5 spaces and 12ch4 spaces around the circle motif. Makech 3(counts as 1 dc) in ch5 space, 3 dc in same ch5 space, *2 dc in ch4 space, 4 dcin ch5 space.* Repeat from * to * around. Join the end of the round. (72 dc)
Rnd 8: ch 3, 1 dc in next 5 dc, 2 dc in next dc, *1 dc in next 6 dc,2 dc in next dc.* Repeat from * to * around. Join the end of the round. (82 dc)
Rnd 9: ch 3, 1 dc in next 7 dc, 2 dc in next dc, *1 dc in next 8 dc,2 dc in next dc.* Repeat from * to * around. Join the end of the round. (91 dc)

Cluster Stitch
1. * Yarn over, insert hook in next space, yarn over, draw yarnthrough the stitch, yarn over, draw through 2 loops on hook *, repeat from * to* 3 times.
2. Yarn over, draw yarn through 5 loops on hook. (picture 4)
